allright, just got the ramdisk to work, took a little trial & error...but here's how i did it...
1) download the program mentioned above & set up a 10MB ramdisk on the letter of your choice...i used 'r'
2) create these 2 batch files...just open notepad...cut & paste what i have below
i called this one boot_fah.bat
----------------------------------------
c:
cd \
cd progra~1
cd foldin~1
copy *.* r:\
r:
r:\fah.exe
-----------------------------------------
i called this one save_fah.bat
-----------------------------------------
r:
copy *.* c:\progra~1\foldin~1
-----------------------------------------
in case you are an idiot like me...when you save the file choose 'all files' from the pull down menu and save it with a .bat extension
make sure in your power profile you allow your hard drive to spin down after a certain amount of time...and you should be ready go to go
when you double-click on boot_fah.bat it copies the files from your real hard disk into the ram disk & launches folding
when you are ready to stop folding...hit 'control-c' like always...then double click on save_fah.bat and it will copy all your hard work back to your hard drive so you can shut down your computer without losing info
there is probably an easier way to do all this...but this is working great for me...i left my computer folding for a few hours with the hard drive silent the whole time...seems to be running slightly faster also
good luck...

Is the RAM disk faster, if so how much?

no evidence to back this up...but i'm guessing around 5% faster
my main reason for doing this wasn't for the speed but because i want to fold 24/7 but i don't want to wear out my hard drive...hopefully this will help :D
Wow, I was trying to figure this out, see my post:

Hey Ken,
Nope, I am still folding villins
I uninstalled and reinstalled what I thought was an upgrade to 1.34 but it was still 1.33b.
The website said 1.34 console version I swear.
I just have a slow puter
Trying to figure out how to fold on a ramdrive sort of like the "crazy man tweak" over in the cable forum. I just can't seem to make the ramdrive big enouph to run the program.
An altenative to the MS ramdrive might be:
vRamDir 1.10
Check it out, shareware but only 10 dollars
Looks like you could run the program on it and with the checkpoint feature you would not lose anything if the system crashed and you ramdrive is wiped clean.
What do you think?
Help meeeee.....

Gonna have to do some more testing, thanks!
