View Full Version : SETI@HOME
I have recently installed SETI on my computer. I downloaded my first data set that same day, luckily, I was able to connect to their server! My question is this...how long will it take for me to crunch the numbers that I downloaded? I have a 800mhz Athlon w/ 128mb of RAM. I am keeping my computer on 24/7 just to see how long it'll take and it's been over 28 hours of crunching already and about 40% done! Is this normal for it to take this long?

If you are running the screensaver version it be very slow! either have it blank after 5 minutes are d/l the cmd line version which runs a lot faster in dos box with no pretty pictures :D :D
Thanks...been very tired from work and I completely forgot about that! Thanks!

Why do you still bother joining SETI now ?
A month ago they made a new client mandatory, which adversedly affected performance, unlike any other previously released client.
Solely because of bandwidth problems at their campus. How lame.
Now it takes at least 1.5x as long as it did before, regardless of WU size.
But if you enjoy it, have fun with it...
I'm with Folding for now
