i have a linksys etherfast 10/100 5-port workgroup switch and earthlink as a dsl provider. earthlink requires you to use a program called winpoet to connect to the internet. i was wondering if there was anybody out there that can tell me how to have multiple people online at the same time through earthlink without using internet connection sharing. will i be better of switching my ISP?
thanks,
david

Your only other choices are--(1) purchase more IPs (if available), (2) purchase a router, and (3) use one of your systems as a server and use some other NAT/proxy software besides ICS.

winpoet uses a protocol called PPPoE which stands for "Point to Point Protocol over Eathernet" which is used for security reasons

i'd get a netgear router, i find they handle PPPoE the best

As soon as a user logs off (restarts, shuts down, times out, etc.), his IP gets returned to the pool of available IPs, and the next time he logs on he receives a different IP. As a result, his security is enhanced compared to a dynamic IP that rarely changes or a static IP.
