Hi guyz,

Just wondering if somebody out there could give me some advice.

I currently have 3 comps hooked up on a LAN here at home and cant get them to see each other.

The 3rd comp is a recent edition and I've just added it to the internet via cable modem. I went to my isp's site and aquired a third connection which changed all our IP's,which I knew would require me to reconfigure zone alarm, but I dont think zone alarm is the issue.

When there were only 2 comps on the LAN our IP's were the same except for the last number, now there all over the place. Is this a problem? All comps are on Win98 but different versions, is that a problem? 2 comps have the same ethernet card and the only protocol I'm using is TCP/IP, do I need any other protocol? My ISP said they dont guarrantee that we'll be on the same subnet and we arnt.

We've used the same 3 comps as is, before offline and had no issues. I removed zone alarm from 2 comps and got the same result. The 3rd was turned off. I didnt try to unplug us from the internet, but dont know if that would establish much. HELP PLZ!!!

On each comp, you need TCP/IP installed along w/File and Printer Sharing, and Client For Microsoft Networks. You also need to share the drives/folders that you want to give access to. The names used to log on to Windows have to be unique. Who is your ISP?

Let me make sure I got this straight:
Each PC (3) has a unique and routable IP that was given to you by your ISP and each PC can get online, but none of them can be seen on your LAN. Is this correct?

look, if you wanna have a home lan, on @home, with file and print sharing turned on, get a router. zonealarm is crap. every @Home tech thats has been working on their system for a year or more will tell you that. I know because I was a service tech for @Home for just about a year. Get a router, ditch the additional ip's and if your fairly new to routers get the linksys with built in 4 port hub its super simple with web access to set up. or if you dont wanna spend the dough, get the dlink di-701 I priced it @ like 80$ a week ago @ pricewatch.com Its a bit more complicated on setup. either way, if you want a secure, fast, effective home lan with total access to all pc's as well as the web, a router is the only way to go. Good Luck

Security-wise, this setup is pretty dangerous. I recommend getting a router or building a server. These methods will also be cheaper in the long run than paying for multiple IPs.

If you don't change your setup add NetBeui protocol. this might help!

NetBEUI is just going to confuse the issue b/c it has to be setup to run over TCP/IP. It's best if sitosterol starts out w/the bare requirements for getting a LAN up and running. He can get into the advanced stuff later once he obtains an understanding/solution of his current situation.

No offense, But NetBuie Is not advanced it is Part of networking. Plus might help! Besides in his same post on the generalforum he says he knows all the protocols.
