i currently am using verizon online as a DSL connection through my home. We bought the linksys 4 port router to connect my comp in my room to the families computer. We can;t make it work, i have tried ebvery netwrok trick i can think of nothing works. What we do now is use the router a switch. (sort-of)

We can DSl on one computer or the other at any given moment, however if the other comp is so much as connected to the router both computers internets go down.

how can i make my router work,

i forgot to mention that when i connect the DSL modem to the WAN connection on the router it doesn't even rconize it exists(no lights turn on) bu when i connect it through a port it can see the modem. (the top light turns on)

What firmware version is the Linksys? Does the connection work if connected directly to eithter computer? Is the system set to use DHCP or are you assigning IP addresses?

Switch the cable from the modem to the router! If it is a crossover, make it a straight, and vice versa.

Here's a link that has a great troubleshooting guide for the Linksys and networking in general. http://www.practicallynetworked.com/

and a forum just for Linksys problems, http://www.dslreports.com/forums

hope this gets you pointed in the right direction.

GOOD TIP TO REMEMBER WITH DSL AND THE LINK SYS. The Linksys router is the computer's gateway. Probably 192.168.1.1 Set the computers gateway to that and the computers IP to obtain automatically. The DSL modem is the router's gateway. So you want to set the router to use DHCP. (Assign IP's) Tell the router what it's IP is. the computer IP provided by your ISP. (talking on the WAN side of the router not the 192.168.1.1 number) The router's gateway is the IP address og your DSL modem. subnets are probably 255.255.255.0

I have set up many of those routers. They can be tricky but you have to really think about who is who's gateway out to the net.
Good Luck
