Ok I have this question. If I had two 10Mbps network cards, I probably can't hook them together with cat 5 cable right?
I just need to know.
yes it probably seems like a dumb question, but I need to know.

yes you can hook 2 computers up without a hub...just put a flip in the cable...i do it all the time....but unless you can make a cable it might be cheaper to get a hub...

Hub will be cheaper. You can get a Linsky 5 port workstation hub for 39.95 and if you watch they are on sell sometimes as low as 25.00. Their nics usally run 15.00 a peace. If you are running win 98se you can use the internet shareing and you are set to go. GoodLuck!

If you ONLY want to hook up 2 comps together, itz cheaper to just buy Crossover Cat5 cable then just hook the NICs together like that, no hub, no mess. Crossover cable is the same price as regular straight through cable anyways. BUT, if you expand your network you'll need a hub or switch 'n then the crossover cable becomes useless
