Since using ICS through my DSL, I am unable to connect to mIRC. They say I have no identd. Any suggestions?

I ran into the same problem while using mirc. Are you using a 192. ip address or the ip from your isp?

The identd daemon for IRC uses port 113 on your computer. Programs like mIRC have ident built in. All you have to do is check a box to enable it. If you're using a DSL router between your computer and your DSL modem, or in this case if you're using ICS, then you have to go into its configuration and FORWARD port 113 to the IP of your computer. Then if you want to initiate DCC chat or file transfers you'll also need to forward some ports. I forwarded port 4998 through 5000 to my machine and then configured mIRC to use those ports for DCC. The big deal with ident responses is that your machine must be reachable at port 113.

yarbird...
thank you very much. That has been very helpful. Now I just have to figure out how to configure my Cayman modem to forward port 113. You have got me started at least.
thanks again.

o.k. there is another way, if you're router doesn't do port forwarding...

Build a linux/bsd/whatever box and have it be you're router, i.e. use NAT routing. This way you can have it do you're ident...
