I have a home LAN in place. Running Sygate NAT (ver 3.11, build 565) software plus BlackIce Defender (firewall). Problem is client machine, though it can access WEB, it can't see the Network. When I click on Network neighborhood, all I see is the flashlight swinging left and right. Though some times for a few moments it is able to see the network. I have let the flashlight swing and at times eventually it does display the network info. Anything else I try and do within Network Neighborhood and it goes "Not Responding" in the task list. I have made sure the Netbeui and TCP/IP are in place. I even deleted both and re-added them with out any luck. I have even removed and readded the network card on the client machine. Any ideas -- I am stuck. Oh yes, file and print sharing is enabled.

Sound like Blackice is blocking netbios, add all machince in your lan to the trusted list in blackice. Maybe also if your multihomed you should disable your internal adapter by editing the blackice.ini file. How to,s are here: http://advice.networkice.com/advice/Support/KB/q000023/default.htm

Hmm..... I have an Idea.
go to your system directory and find a file call lmhosts.sam usually at
c:\windows\lmhosts.sam
open it in notepad and add a mapping for your servers IP and a computername for it. Then save it as lmhost without the .sam at the end. Then restart your machine.
When the machine is rebooted, go to start>find>computers then enter the name of the other machine as you entered itin the lmhosts file. it should find it. Then simply create a shortcut on your desktop to it. If that doesn't work it may be an issue with BLackice defender not allowing access.
