I've got Inet access via satalite to my 1st computer. It uses 2 IP addresses (different networks) to get out to the Inet (2 NICs).
I use WinProxy 3 (3user) to share access and do DHCP off this 1st PC (it is running NT4 SP5 Workstation). The web browser was set up for the following proxy settings by the intstaller:
HTTP=localhost:9090
SECURE=localhost:9092
FTP=localhost:9090
If I tell WinProxy to use the "Cascading Proxy" feature - which means to look for access through another proxy - it allows me to set it to "127.0.0.1:9090". I can access HTTP and FTP alright, but I cannot access any secured sites - like my bank.
If I disable the "Cascading Proxy" feature and let it get the connection however it wants to - the speed drops 90% (50 KB vs 500 Kb). I can access the secured sites again - along with normal web traffic.
Two questions:
1. How is WinProxy getting Inet access without being told about the oddball port settings? Is NT acting as a router behind the scenes (I do have IP passing enabled)?
2. Is there a way to TELL WinProxy to pass my secure traffic over the 9092 port instead of the 9090?
