Hi there,

I run a small business network and I've run out of options on what to do to make my Linksys Router connect to our ADSL line.

We are hooked up with a company named Manitoba Telephone Services (MTS) and checked with them prior to buying the router. They said as long as it has PPPoE it will work.

We to no surprise it didn't work... nothing seems to be working for me here lately. Last friday I had to take the Windows 2K server in to get a new processor because it was flaking out 1 hour after I finally got it working correctly... but that's another story...

Anyway, I tried all the options I could think of under all the firmware versions including 1.33 that effects the router connecting to the service. I can't get it to connect, it keeps saying "LCP Negotiation Failed".

MTS runs on Unix platforms, and I dial in with Winpoet 1.4. It's the only dialer that will work on our modem. Every other dialer including Winpoet 1.0 and 2.0 failed to connect for reasons still unknown by myself and MTS.

I was hoping this router would provide a nice firewall/gateway for the network.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Well thank you for the reply, and yes, my DSL does use RAS to connect.

I guess there would be no way to tell the router to open a RAS session without firmware from the router company would there?

It's is difficult to use ADSL with some of these routers, becoz some of ADSL services require u to start an RAS session to dial up to your ISP and most routers do not do this dial up automatically.
But there are routers that have RAS function which will dial up when necessary.

if you have the 1.33 firmware and pppoe, try the following. first make sure you have that disk that the mts ppl gave you. access the router setup page and enable pppoe. try putting in the following, either you username or username@mts.ca, or whatever you email address [should be the same as you username, but with @something.somewhere on the end]. enable connect on demand, and set max idle time to 999. hit apply, settings are successful, continue. try a quick reset on the router [tapping NOT HOLDING the reset button in, the red diag will come on for ~5 seconds, then go off]. just a suggestion
