I have a Linksys w/ Adelphia 2 way service.

It is very easy to set up and works fine with the external cable modem. (GI Surfboard 3100) One thing you want to make sure of is that you have a CAT 5 cable coming from the cable modem.

First thing to do is write down the MAC ID Address of you NIC (that your cable modem was plugged into) because Adelphia may ask you what it was.

Then plug in your new router and hook everything up the way you want it. (the install guide supplied with the router is pretty good). Make sure that the LAN is working first before you call Adelphia. (you do have to call them).

Then when you finally get a hold of Tech support, tell them that you got a new PC with a new NIC and you need them to reset the cable modem. They will do this with no problem. Just don't let them know that it is a router. (not sure if they would care but you don't need to offer more info then they need to know)

Then "BLAM!" you should be up and running within a couple of min.
You might want to keep them on the phon until it works.

PS- They will tell you to go to you network settings when you are checking on the IP address but you really need to go to the config menu of the router 192.168.1.1 and go to the status tab.........

Hope everything goes well with your install.
If you need more info just let me know.

There is another way. Download the 1.33 Beta firmware for the Linkysy router and install it. Run "winipcfg" on the machine they installed the cable modem to, copy down the MAC address of your nic. Go to the setup page of the router and click on the WAN MAC field. Enter the MAC for your NIC. Click "apply changes". Connect your cable modem to the WAN port on the router and you should be in business.

i have heard of the nightmares with adelphia, which i have now renamed to adolfia [after that one guy with the funny little mustache from the 40's]. not only are they running MAC address scans looking for anything with the id of 00-20-78-xx-xx-xx [the linksys router stock MAC address], but i heard reports of them blocking many incoming ports, for things like ftp, pcanywhere and others. so don't try to host. if you can get your hands on the 1.33.1 firmware, this resolves all issues i have come across. the 1.33 works ok as well, but it is not as tooled over as the .1 is.
