What IP addresses are you using? You need to make sure that the IPs have the same prefix - ie. 192.168.1.x (where x would equal the number computer its on - I start with 1). Also, be sure that the NIC that is currently not working is NOT set to use DHCP. Since it does not sound like you do not have a DHCP server, the machine will not get a valid IP address.
Hope this helps!

well i want them to work with the same ip.
'make sure that the IPs have the same prefix'
what do you mean? and how can i do it ?
'be sure that the NIC that is currently not working is NOT set to use DHCP. Since it does not sound like you do not have a DHCP server'
could you repeat that more clearly please? also, the 'host' cards are not on the same irq...
Thanks

OK - Lets get something straight - Are you trying to share an internet connection, or trying to see one computer from another on a network or both? It doesn't matter if you use a 3rd party program or not, if your network is not working properly, neither will the program. Do you have file/print sharing turned on?

Ok, lets see, for simplicitys sake, each NIC MUST have a unique IP address. for example on your WIN ME box if you are trying to share your internet connection and see an internal network the NIC on the cable/DSL modem will have the ip your ISP requires. The other NIC in the same machine will have an IP set to be used on your internal network, something like 192.168.1.1 for example. Then set the IP on the other WIN 98 machine to 192.168.1.2 . Then make sure your have file and print sharing installed on both machines and drives shared to enable you to see them. The error message you have seems to indicate either an IP address conflict (2 or more of the NICs have the same IP address and whichever is booted first will work the next will not.) Then you will need a thr\ird party piece of software such as WinRoute or for a free solution sambar server located at sambar.com. Hope this helps.
