I got a couple of old P-233MMX computers at home and I recently networked them peer to peer style with my PII-400MMX. The PII has two NIC's in it. One to serve as a cable modem connection, another for peer to peer communication. The set up went easily enough, and setting up the Internet Connection Sharing in Windows 98 went by "smoothly". I only got one minor problem now, I cant access my e-mail accounts from either Internet client computers. However both computers can surf the net in Netscape or IE5, or use ICQ and FTP programs with no problems. And on the internet host computer ( the PII-400 ) I can access the e-mail accounts with ease. Which setting in Internet Explorer 5 or Netscape 4.73 changes my mail server information, and how do I set them up for the Internet Sharing for Windows 98?

.... I almost forgot, if any of you got any advice on how I could use the priveleges of my home network resources, and at the same time keep my home network secure from possible internet intruders. Also, how do I hide my network from the guys from Shaw@Home? I dont want to get billed for any extra IP's
--------That would'nt be cool :-)------------

Simple fix: in your mail setttings (POP3 and SMTP), don't just leave them as "mail"; you need to put in your domain name as well. Go here (http://www.sygate.com/cgi-bin/gethost.cgi) for that info.

I just can't get it to work!!! I configured my TCP/IP settings as follows:
Obtain IP Address automatically = Enabled
Use DHCP for WINS Resolution = Enabled
Default Gateway = 192.168.0.1 ( The NIC on the internet sharing computer thats connected to the LAN )
DNS server = I used my ISP's DNS server
Domain Suffix Search Order = 64.109.23.ab.wave.home.com

Should I change my IP Address to 192.168.0.2 and domain to 255.255.255.0 ? Or am I shooting in the dark?

If you change your client PC's to static IP's the ICS will stop working. You need to know the FULL DNS name of your mail server. On the server, goto the command prompt, and type in "ping mail" (without the quotes) and you should get a full name resolution.

For example my cable connection is COX@home. If I "ping mail", then I get back: mail.phnx3.az.home.com for my full DNS name.

That did it!! Thanks for the tip, I pinged my mail server from the internet host computer and got back the full DNS mail server name!! Then I inserted that into my mail server configuration in NEtscape and now everything is a-OK. Now I just have to figure out how I can have file and printer sharing on without advertising my LAN to the rest of the world. ( Including Shaw@Home )
