microsoft proxy 2.0,email not working(internet)

im using outlook2000(outlook express) wont connect says that mail server is not responding,going thru microsoft proxy 2.0 with sp1,nt40 sp6

Did you just install Proxy for the first time?

at one point everything was fine,i thought i would try wingate(mistake)anyway i ended up reinstalling nt and service packs and proxy.i renember when i got to work before there was a trick to it cant renember what for that was a year or so ago. It seems asif socks is not working correct.i can use the machine proxyservice is installed on to send and get mail but its not going thru the proxy

Ok, sounds like you forgot to turn on the access permissions for winsock. Launch the proxy MMC, and expand the tree until you can see the winsock branch. Right-Click on winsock, and select properties. Click on the permissions TAB (Or maybe button?) and for the unlimited access, add everyone. Save the console settings, and you should be good to go.

Oh, and just a thought here, did you remember to install the client on the client PC?
