Hello ,
I am recieving a new computer and am putting this one for parents so they can surf the web while i do my thing.
Now i want to connect the old computer and the New computer so they both use my 1 cable modem.

Now i dont know the best way to do this.

I dont want my ping time to go up cause im using a router or something. So what do i use that wont slow my ping times down. (And i am not talking about when parents are on the net, i am talking in general if the thing letting 2 comps connect to eachother will increase my ping and pl).

So what do i do buy a router , network somehow what do i do?

And if my parents are surfing the web and i am playing quake3 which is all i will play with new computer will my ping and pl go high?

Thanks for your help.

Since your going to share the data pipe with your parents. Anyway you do this your going to see a performance drop when you Quake.

Since your on a cable modem, your game play should not be noticable when the folks surf. When they pull 100k files you'll squirm a bit. Big files 1-10Mg & above, you'll sweat alot in the game. You will still be ahead of the 56krs and should not complain.

I have Sygate + 5 PCs all shareing a single 56K modem. All 5 browsing & E-mailing work fine. If two or more pull files, life is not good.

Buy the Umax Ugate+, then hook them up like this: Cable Modem > UGate+ > Hub. Then plug both PC's into the Hub. You'll have to setup the Ugate+ for your cable modem settings, and to be a dhcp server for the pc's. It's pretty simple.
