Hello, I need to extend an ethernet cable using a RJ45 coupler. Will it matter if I hook an existing CAT 5e cable with a CAT 5 cable using the coupler? My network is 10 Mbps.

Thanks!

No.

Yeah

Cat5 (normal Cat5) even works for ATM 155Mbps connections over UTP...

I ripped my old CAT 3 phone line and ran CAT 5 to the phone line which is connected to my DSL splitter and modem. I get a perfect 45/45 db signal from my modem to my CO :D

is there any line faster then a cat5 line that is some htign you could buy? what about nic cards that can go at that speed? in another post i asked whats it the fastest conection line and stuff and i think it is stm16 or some thing but it was 9.7gbps and i can only wonder what type of cable or line they use with that

pimptrizkit,

STM64 (Equivalent to the American OC-192) is delivered over single mode fibre. (Single mode fibre is thinner, and has a single path or 'mode' of light only).

Remember, the speed of the fibre remains constant. The interface cards on either end are typically what determine the link's capability. The medium doesn't have a rated 'speed' as such - it is determined by the modulation/line code running on that media.

for example: our fibre link to the net runs at 155Mbps currently. To make it faster, you simply buy new interfaces for each end. (fyi - an STM64/OC192 interface card is of the order of around AU$480,000 - not cheap stuff).
