View Full Version : Network Places Icon goes *poof*
Got my new killer machine and went to setup the router and on the old machine the Network Places icon is gone. So, I can't go make the changes I need to to get it on the router. It's not on the desktop, and no, it's not hiding behind another icon. :(
In Control Panel> Network it also does not give me the ID tag to set it up properly...Weird. Anyway, the next option is the reinstall Windows and go from there....Unless any of you super-intelligent folks have the answer...
Thanks in advance.
No such file, and I have ME running there.
I appreciate the help and I'll probably go to Win 2K eventually. ;) In the meantime, however....
I found the inetcpl.cpl file and that's just the properties for IE and does not give me the proper interface to adjust the bindings and such for the NIC. Weird...
I haven't run anything odd as of late, and the Net access there is fine, but I just can't get to it to change computer name, etc to get it on my router.
So, I'm off to work and will check back later then. Again, thanks for the help, Norm.
Well...between an email and the info here I finally figured it out....I had a second NIC installed when I was running a hub for a simple LAN. When I moved the computer, I removed this NIC as it was no longer needed as it was going to be hooked up to the router. That, evidently, is what caused the icon to go away. To get it back, I just went into the Network icon on the Control Panel and added NetBEUI and voila! Icon is back.
30 seconds later on a super easy setup for the NetGear router and both machines are rock and roll on the Net! :D :D Woohoo!
