...hook my laptop up to my desktop, so i can access my cable connection through my laptop(hate sitting at a desk...wouldnt mind sitting in a comfy recliner for a change).I have an external cable modem and 1 nic installed in my desktop.Is it possible to just add another nic to my desktop...and run a cable from it to the nic in my laptop?Some one told me i'd need a hub..but i dont see why.Were they right?or can I get away with the second nic and a cable running to my laptop?*crossing my fingers*

Any help would be appreciated.

All you have to do is add a second NIC to the desktop and run a crossover cable from the second NIC to the laptop. Then you use a small proxy program to let you share the internet connection. If you need help on doing this than let me know. ;)
