Ok now I cant go to certain websites on my win2k professional machine this is the second time this has happened to me on this win2k thing last time I just reformatted but this time I WILL NOT! I can go to certain websites and others I cant I know the websites that I cant go to are up and running becuase my other computers can get to them I have not changed anything on my system since the last time I know of it working and the only thing that is the same as last time is I left it on for a couple of days then this "thing" happens any ideas what could be causing it I have rebooted and restored my most recent registry backup and also the one before that and it didnt fix the problem has anyone else had this problem
Check your security settings on IE. There's no need to reformat anything. It's all in your settings on IE or a few other places (read below). And there are so many settings, it's hard to say exactly which ones are causing the block. Are you the only user on this computer? Could someone else be changing them?
Also, are you running a firewall? And if so, do you have any sites blocked? And do you have sites blocked using the Hosts file?
That should help get you started in the right direction...

ok I am the only admin and all other users are i.e. wife and vistors are restricted users of this computer
my firewall/router/DHCP server (linux) is only blocking 2 websites I removed them and still have the problem I did notice that my LMHOST was not up to date on ip to dns so imported the default one that helped alittle bit added 5 more websites to my list :D but still have the problem with some others
could it be the IRQ's I have 5 things using IRQ 11
2 ethernet cards PCI
voodoo agp card
sound blaster live card PCI
and a firewire PCI card
I tried to change the irq in the device manager but it wont let me (greyed out) so I tried to do it int he bios (slot 1 =irq10
slot 2 =irq9 blah blah
but still didnt change them also turned off PNP O/S = NO
think I did that right
