View Full Version : Router connections
My router is picking up connection from cable moden. Cable went down a few days and now will not show link up does show a connection. Was working fine. Called teck supp for linksys router and tech guy wanted to reinstall driver?
I don't know if this will help, but I have a friend who just had the same problem (no Linky though) and he had to uninstall his software firewall and then everything worked fine. Try that if you're running one.
no firewall and idea why he would say to reinstall the driver

That's always a good place to start. That's why that's usually the first thing they suggest if the easy fixes don't work. And, a lot of times that does fix the problem. You ought to try it.

LOL, the tech wanted you to re-install the driver for the Linky router? LOL....man, how did he get a tech job.
Assuming you can see the web admin page of the router fine? So your LAN part is working fine. It's just the Linky status page, if you hit release/renew, will not populate with WAN IP data?
On some cable setups that I've done with the Linksys, it's taken a few reboots of the modem and Linky to get them to talk. Power off the modem and the Linksys for a while (at least a few minutes), try powering each one back up in a different order.
Lets rule out the Linksys as the culprit, plug a computer straight into the modem, setup the computer properly (depending on how this ISP works, DNS name, MAC, just obtian IP, etc), and see if the modem works that way. Perhaps his line is just down.
Thanks a bunch you guys should be the ones on the tech support!!!! Those guys dont know there ass froma hole in the wall.
