Hi Everyone !
I am having problems getting my home LAN up and running. The situation is like this :

PC No 1 Netgear PC No 2
PII 450 UTP-> Fast <-UTP P120
Realtech Ethernet Nowell 2000
Networkcard Switch Networkcard

PC No 1 is the one connected to internet via a ISDN card ( this connection works fine), but the problem with the LAN is a diffrent situation.

I am using the following IP / Netmask/Gateway
PC No 1 PC No 2
IP 192.168.1.254 192.168.1.2
Netmask 255.255.255.0 255.255.255.0
Gateway ........... ..........

These are the settings on each computers Local Area Connection ( in the Network and dialup connection folder). The light indicator on the switch are both green. I wonder if the connection to my ISP ( Telenor in Norway) somehow overides my IP. The connection ( PPP) to my ISP assignes IP adress to my computer ( PC No1) when connected, but when I am not connected the IP in my network adapter should be working ??

Anyway, when clicking on the LAN connection in Network and Dial up folder I get the network indicator on saying that I am connected, but I am not able to ping the other computer.

Any suggestions folks ...

ThanX
David A.

I'm sorry, but you've lost me. :) What exactly is the problem? Are you trying to share your ISDN and/or create a 2 PC LAN?

I am trying to make a two PC LAN. ( But of course I would also like to share the ISDN connection on my "online" PC, but first thing first :) that is to get my LAN working)

When I am not connected to the internet and trying to get my LAN up and running both PC get the little duble computer icon in the lower right corner saying that the are conneced to my LAN, but I am not able to ping the other computer ( or see it in explorer).

File and Printer Sharing and Client for MS Networks must be bound to the LAN protocol. Since your LAN will be exposed to the internet, I suggest using NetBEUI as the LAN protocol, as it is unroutable. Also, each PC needs a unique computer name and needs to be logged into w/ resources shared.
