I have @home running through a NetGear hub to two computers. Last weekend I put 3Com NICs (3C905C TX-M) into both computers. I like!!!. When computer #1 is powered down, the light on the hub shows the NIC as powered down (no green light). When computer #2 is powered down, the hub shows green which means the NIC is still getting power even though the computer is shut down. Should I be concerned?

Usually on hubs there is always one light on by default.

Before the NICs, I had USB from each computer to the hub. No green lights on the hub with USB. It’s only since I stuffed in the NICs, that I get a green light, and then only on computer #2. No big thing.. just curious. 3Com does sell a NIC that allows the user to remotely “wake” a computer. That particular NIC stays in the “power on” mode. I don’t think the NICs I bought are that type.

What kind of system board do you have? Even though power may be turned off, it still may keep a small amount of current flowing to the PCI bus and the rest of the system. Whatever the cause, it shouldn't be a problem.
