Hi,
I’ll try to be concise. I’ve installed a LAN in my home between 2 PC’s. Both PC’s have 10/100 NIC running into a Linksys hub. It seems that everything is installed
correctly because the PC’s see each other and CAN interact with each other. (i.e. file transfers & gaming) The problem seems to be varying throughput. If I open network neighborhood on both PC’s and go to My Music and try to play (stream) music from one PC to the other, it skips, same with Movie Trailers as well. If I drag and drop or copy and paste between the 2 PC’s, it takes 2-4 minutes for a 2-3 meg file! Using AnalogX’s Netstat Live utility I measure a little better than 56KB of throughput between computers. Not good.

Now, here is the real mystery. Sometimes one computer seems to function properly. After rebooting several times one of the PC’s starting getting proper throughput (i.e. I got 35 MB on a file transfer). However, the other PC still had the same problem. After a few more reboots the problem reversed itself. I really am at a loss to explain this. I’m getting ready to install ISDN and a Netgear router, I really need to get this resolved. By the way, I installed a 5 PC LAN at work and have not encountered this problem. So I’m not a complete newbie BUT apparently I’m missing something.

Any thoughts? Thank you.

sounds like something is messed up. You might have to start from scratch and reinstall the whole network as was suggested. Sounds Like Network neighbor is pointing to a different shortcut. ;)

Not sure what it is doing, I would try uninstalling and reinstalling your protocals. I would then map the drives between the 2 comp. prob wont solve your problem but may help a little.
