View Full Version : Need info on W2k
I'm hoping to make SG a daily event in my life. Y'all know whats up with computers. Anyways I built a network at my office. 98, simple and reasonably stable. Well in this happy little world a new and frightening entity has surfaced. Windows 2000 Professional. Autocad does not play well with Millenium. I can do neat and cool things with 98, all I can do with W2K is curl up in the fetal position and wet myself.
I have managed to get enough stuff working to keep the boss from stringing up electric wire around my office, but I gotta get this choke collar off. I was wondering if y'all know of any books or online sites that will help me return to the land of the living. I'm not wanting someone to hold my hand by any means, but good sources that a fairly advanced computer user will find helpful. Any help is appreciated, flame me if yer cranky, I have thick skin. Anyhoo thanks.

what is exactly wrong????
Nothing in particular, just that anytime I need to change or modify any settings I'm worried that I'm gonna end up wrecking the whole network. I don't know how powerful W2K's settings are, can they effect the whole setup? Just general info so I'm proficient with the system. The admin stuff has really got me all worried too.

If there's no problem, what exactly are your concerns?

Wait 'til you try it w/Windows2000! 2000; 2000i; ArchDesktop 2 & 3- if you're network's set up as a domain, with any kind of security / permissions, the fun has barely started.
It can be overcome, and is worth the trouble- CAD is rock-solid, quick and reliable with Win2000.
I can't imagine anyone wanting to support any current AutoCAD releases on Win9x or ME clients- better get them used to re-booting!
Use NT or 2000.
I guess my rantings were vague. Lack of sleep and staring at new and unusual menus in W2K made me a bit loopy. I would like someone with vast knowledge of NT..er W2k to point me in right direction for literature, CD's or online tutorials. Y'all know how it works, so therefore your recomendations on learning would keep me from wasting time on rooting through usless info. Am I making any sense yet? I don't want "W2K for Dummies" and I would not understand a book on decompling W2K either. Just solid info, a primer I guess.
