Could anyone help me out of a gloomy 12 week problem please?
I have a simple home network of 2 PIII Pcs running Windows ME - as of yesterday they have a completely fresh OS install onto newly formated hard drives. I believe that the hardware is OK as internet connection sharing works fine, however:
If I try to do a copy / paste from one machine to the other I can see the remote machine directory but when I try to copy the file the transfer never completes. When trying to shut down the recipient machine it tells me that a connection to the host is still active and offers to disconnect (repeated as many times as I've tried to transfer files).
protocols installed are: dial-up adapter, ICS and Linksys card
services are: ICS, TCP/IP and file/ printer sharing
also Client for MS windows.
-> These are as installed by default on installation.
The frustrating thing was that I had this problem initially (Nov last year), screwed around with the protocol / service settings and suddenly everything worked. Gradually everything fell to bits and I couldn't recreate the solution again - and still can't.
Could anyone help with a suggestion please, it's driving me and my wife mad (she uses the 2nd PC for her business).
Many thanks
Mark
