If anyone can help? I'm having problems making my PC accept 2 nic cards, I'm running Win2kPro and DSL modem. I have updated my drivers for the 3com nic card (for the dsl) and it works great on-line but now I want to connect my Laptop running Win2kpro through a pc to pc cross over cable. But It won't accept another card, another 3-com, or a isa d-link card, no success either . If anyone can point me in the right direction It would be greatly appriectiated.I'm told it is possiible to run two computers through a dsl connection, wihtout a hub or router just two cards in one machine and one in the other? Any news is good news. Thanks in advance.
What do you mean it won't accept another NIC? Did you install the 2nd NIC and it's drivers?
Whats the error message? It can't say "i dont accept that NIC" does it detect it? Do you have a free IRQ? Have you done anything to the protocols on the DSL NIC? Let us know what exactly it says.

:D HA HA I'm half way there, I took your advice and moved to another pci slot and she took, now I can't get it to find the other computer. When I turn on the ICS on card #2 it disables my dsl link on card #1. And it will not let me turn the ICS on for card #1, It tells me that it is either not present or not connected but i'm using it now on-line . I get two sets of computers down on the right both showing sent and recieved, #1 connected at 10.0Mbps and #2 @ 100.0Mbps what am I doing wrong? Thx in advance.

sorry guys, both nic cards are the same 3-com 10/100 pci 3c905b. In the device manager it has a '?' next to the second card and when I'm in properties it tells me it cannot start. Is there a certain order my nic cards should be installed? Is one slot a slave and one a master? I might be a litle nieve but, no i haven't changed any setting on the dsl nic card. But I'm willing to listen. Thanks for the repsonses, had no idea it would be so soon. Thx again

On the server, use ICS to share the DSL modem w/ the LAN NIC, wich in turn will share it w/ the rest of the computers on your LAN.
What protocol are you using for the LAN. TCP/IP? NetBEUI? I recommend NetBEUI, but either way, bind File/Printer Sharing and Client for MS Networks to the LAN protocol.
TCP/IP must be installed on any computer requiring internet access, regardless of whether or not TCP/IP is also being used as the LAN protocol. The LAN NIC in the server needs an IP and subnet of 192.168.0.1 and 255.255.255.0, respectively. The client(s) should be setup dynamically. Make sure each computer has a unique logon and computer name.
BTW, does your DSL use PPPoE?

well guys, i'm not too sure what the hell happened but everthing is great, first I could only see the client (win98) from my server but could not access it('path could not be found')and from the client it said ('unable to access network') but now I can access internet from server and client but only file sharing from client --->server. On the client (win98) it still tells me unable to browse network, network unaccesable' but I can still access the internet and e-mail. This networking has truly been a lesson. Thanks for all your help. any further suggestion would be great. :D Thx Oh and glc1 what does PPPoE mean? I have a 3-com homeconnect dsl and my isp is Telus in Alberta.

So the LAN still isn't fully functional?
