Thanks just never heard of it. They still can't get there up and running. So I wonder what there problem is. Like I said I don't use DLS so i have no clue to how it is setup or if there is even such a modem. I will send them the web site. They can go from there. Thanks again. Are they better for performance or not. Or is a regular modem better. My neighbor wants to know. I can not answer his question.Plus is there any web page that might help him setup his DLS with This modem He has the software but can not get online.
;)

Performance is the same, however, they require drivers and cannot be used w/ routers, obviously. I'm not sure if your neighbor has an Efficient Networks (they might), I just posted that link as an example.

Ok thanks! They bought the computer threw a our phone company On a deal they could try DLS free for a year. It is a COMPAC. 566 celeron with 64 megs and a ten gig hard drive with the DLS Modem Built In it.I think maybe they might have got a lemon. Because he has been complaining about it sense he got it. I will send him the web page. He can go from there. I have told him to call the phone company. But he just keeps messing with it. So this is the last time I am going to help him.It seems the more he messes with it the more problems he has. Oh well thanks anyway.

If so, filters before each phone or a splitter at the NID?

My neighbor just bought a computer. It has free DLs service. He claims the card in the machine is all he needs to connect the dsl up. I don't use DLS. But I always thought you had to have a modem Like cable. Or is there such a thing as a built in modem on the card he has for DLS. Needless to say his doesn't work. But when he calls the computers manufacter They claim he does not need a modem. Has anyone heard of this or knows why his services won't work.

[ 02-26-2001: Message edited by: Storm90 ]In my area Pac Bell had (has?) a similar Compaq/DSL deal. Anyway, those speeds don't sound right. Are those the actual speeds or the package caps?

I think they are with the package. Any way he finally called them. They came out and said the modem in the computer was no good . So now he has to wait for them to send him another one. He really don't know that much about computers . So in order to get any thing out of him I have to take a look at the computer. But from what I read of the papers that came with it. These are the speeds listed. I think maybe this computer company has deals setup with most of the phone companys. But after the frist year they will have to pay 39.99 a month.I do no one thing he did was delete the software out for his DLS. He said the phone company reinstalled the software. So till he gets the new modem I won't know much. DLS is just new to this area. I guess this is the fasted they are offering on this deal. Thanks. I will let you no if he ever gets it up. You are proubly right about the caps.
