I feel foolish asking this question, but here goes. I'm helping a family member with @home service connect a desktop and a laptop to a 4 port Linky in Windows 98. The tech got the desktop up and running fine by itself but now it's time to connect the router. I thought no sweat, this is childs play. The first thing I did was to run winipcfg. The problem is the working machine has the following configuration which is confusing to me (I have DSL and a fixed IP address at my house).
Host Name: XXXXXXXX-X.XXXXX.XX.XX.XXXX.XXX
DNS Server: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
Node Type: Broadcast
PPP Adapter
Adapter Address: XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX
IP Address: 0.0.0.0
Subnet mask: 0.0.0.0
DHCP Server: 255.255.255.255
Does @home use PPP protocol?
How can I configure my router?
I called the tech at @home and I was told the only protocol I needed was TCP/IP, is this true?
Should I change the host name of the router to match the host name of the currently working desktop?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you.
