Ok i have the linksys four port router... i plugged straight into the cable modem, and changed the settings, and went to a ftp site, and downloaded a file, and got over 600 KBPS almost the whole time. then i plugged into the router, changed the settings around, and went to the same ftp, and only got 325KB... I heard the linksys routers have a 350KBPS limit (to each PC) on downloading from the internet. is that true? cause it seemed like it, it started at 300K, and then climbed to 349.39 KB and then started going down again... is the linksys speed limit true? cause if it is, ill be pissed.

Your download speed from your cable connection is dependent on MANY factors. You won't get anything close to the 10MB spec on your Linkys WAN port, this is just the nature of cable media. Traffic by nature is "bursty" and many sites throttle their bandwidth.
Now, you internal LAN will run at a full 100MB full-duplex as long as your NIC's support it.
Don't sweat it, your not getting gipped on speed http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif

I had the same problem with the Linksys 4-port router. When I connected my computer directly to the ADSL I got approximately twice the speed that I got through the router/switch. I repeated this experiment about six times at different times of day and night and got consistent results. (Throughput speeds varied, of course, but were cut in half through the Linksys. I returned it to the store and paid an extra $20 for the Netgear. Now I get the same throughput connected directly to ADSL and through the router.
No idea why.

easy...the netgear has a better NAT processor and has a 5+ megabit limit where as the linksys has a 2 or 3 megabit limit

ok i have been doing some tests. From the other PC, downloading from the same FTP, i get 400K... from my win2k pc, 70K. I am assuming that since the time i downloaded these was less then a minute apart, that my win2k pc is mis-configured...

Had the same problems with the Linksys POS, downloads would hang, and really slow. Shipped it back and got the Netgear RT311, havn't had a problem since. Netgear or should I say Zyxel adds something new to every firmware version they put out. Next addition I hear is the abiltity to input port ranges.
