If your cousin lives within 321 feet of your computer and you don't mind stringing up CAT-5 or burying it then sure. Otherwise, your outta luck.

Is there any way for my cusin to dial into my pc and share my internet with his 56k.

im afraid you are outta luck in regards to that man. there is all kinds of issues that have to be resolved in order for high speed internet to work, and without your cousin having the right stuff he is S.O.L im afraid.

Having your cousin share your cable connection over the phone line defeats the purpose. He is still going to be limited by his own 56k dial-up connection.

the 8th response was the most intelligent and correct answer. Wonder why the other seven gave you no net-working advice......Show's me the last person knows his **** as I do, certified and a voice and data cable-humper

Yea i know he will still go at 56k and that is what we are trying to do.

He could access your PC via PCAanywhere and out on the web then. It would only be 56K for him (faster that a normal 56k dialup, but only one of you could browse at a time. I wouldn't bother. Why doesn't he just get his own cable or DSL?

cause he is to far to get DSL yet. So with PCanywhere he should be able to dial into my computer and be connected faster than a regular 56k dialup

Okay, let me clear this up once and for all. Your cousin if he is using a 56k modem on dial-up (53k max) will ONLY get transfer speeds as fast as [/b]HIS connection. You could be running an OC-3 connection at your house and it won't matter, the data will get to you faster but he is still limited by HIS connection.

Fossil, I'm not sure what your trying to accomplish with pcAnywhere, this software actually takes up more bandwidth than just browsing from your own computer. There is NOTHING your cousin can do to get faster speeds other than getting wireless, DSL or cable at his own home.

CM... I'm not trying to accomplish anything...just an alternative to a bizzare situation. BTW in the past before cable was available, I used to PCanywhere into my work PC and get out on the T1. It was faster than a 56k to the ISP. Man you people are too critical.

Marginally faster perhaps, dialup is still horribly slow vs. todays emerging broadband options. If your dialing direct to your corporate network then your eliminating all of the ISP's equipment and the built in latency to such a service. Your solution may work for folks that have that kind of access, but for the average user it's not a viable solution.

No one is being critical, just pointing out the other factors that go into it.

All i wanted to know is how to give 56k internet to my cusin. I know even if he dials up to my computer he will go 56k, and that is what i am trying to accomplish. I dont care if he cant get DSL from me i dont want to give him DSL anyways i just want him to connect to my computer and share my DSL which means he will be going 56k.

You will not be giving him DSL. His connection to you is limited to the equipment and quality of his phone line on HIS end. If he has a 56k modem and the max he can connect to his own ISP is 43k, then that's all he's gonna get connecting to anyone else. The FCC has place a cap of 53,333 kbs on analog telephone communications using a modem, he will NEVER get a full 56k.

Also, the maximum speed you can obtain with a 56k modem are HIGHLY dependent upon the quality of the copper wire from the phone companies pedestal to your demarc then all the wiring in your home.

Sorry to tell you, but your cousin is not going to benefit in any way from your DSL line.

My cusin would connect at 53,333 with a free isp company but that company no longer has service. So since i know he can go 53,333 i wanted to share my internet with him so he can have internet again at 53,333. What i have been asking for the longest time is to know how can he dial up into my PC so he can have internet again and then see if he connects at 53,333.

I think everyone just missed your point. Yes, you can set that up. With WinNT he could RAS in and network up with you over the modem and share internet access. 95/98 have RAS but I never tried dialing into a 95/98 box to share net access. You can do it with NT/2000.
