OK heres the scoop really quickly

I have 3 computers total and the cable modem is hooked up to mine. So Im the server. I have 2 NICS in my computer, 10MB for the cable modem and 100MB for the network. I have a HUB and all the computers plug into that...but not the cable modem.

basically I hooked up another computer last nite to make 4 computers, but it was weird because the internet wouldnt work when I would assign the IP 192.168.0.4. If I would obtain it automatically...then the internet would work fine!! I think another computer has to obtain automatically an IP also. But the other 2 computers have 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.3 assinged! They get internet fine!

Im wondering isnt that weird? Why would some computers need to specify the 192.168 stuff....and some computers need to obtain automatically?

thanx guys

What gateway program are you using....

Being a person who has been know to take the easy way out, I would use whatever works. I use wingate and have used both static and dhcp before, both worked. Although with such a small number of machines involved, I prefer static address. In work with over 300 machines dhcp is a must.

Were all of your machines on at the same time? Could there be a conflict in your firewall...meaning the range of allowable address'. Is the 04 address the begining of the dhcp range of address?

Grasping at straws here.

Did you try disabling dhcp and static address all the machines?

I know in my Linksys you have to go into the DHCP clients table and add another number to the clients table so the router will know how many machines there are.
