Please help with info before I attempt to network. Here is what I have 2 computers each with a internal network card, fujitsu external dsl modem, and a 10 Base-T 5 port hub, 2 computers both with windows 98-SE. Is there anyway to network them for internet sharing without paying for a second isp?
Any information I can get would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

forgot too add that I was networked on cable modem using the 3 network cards, and using win98sc internet sharing, so i guess my question is do I still need the 3 nic cards or can I use 2 and still use internet sharing? The 3rd network card I had went back with the cable modem. Sorry for the long post. Pam ((:

You can still use ICS with your DSL. Each machine will need to have atleast one NIC card, except the ICS server, it needs two.

Thanks for the info, however is there any other way to network the 2 computers just using the 2 nic's with the hub?

No, unfortunately you will still need at least 2 NIC's in the ICS machine to be able to share the DSL connection.

well, if you get a router, but those are like 100$ you would be better off buying a 10$ nic online @ www.pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com)
G'luck!

jd, I just moved from close to you in Lafayette to way north to Goshen. well that's a bummer that I need the 3 network cards and I know it's cheaper to go that way, but I've heard that the router is much better overall, do you know if this is true? I didn't have much trouble when I was networked with cable modem using the 3 nic's, well that was after fighting 2 days getting the isc to work, and to be honest I have no idea what I finally did to make it work, but I hope when I do get the nic or router that it goes smother then before...LOL
ps...Glad your pic is not 50 years old!! LMAO

Okay, now that your talking about routers instead of ICS I'll answer that http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif
A router can add you the greatest amount of flexability and eliminate the need for additional NIC cards and using a computer as a server. There are many excellent router offerings that combine NAT, limited firewall capabilities, DHCP, port forwarding, etc.
I personally use the Linksys BFSR41 4-port Router/Switch to network an iMAC and 3 PC's. All this is accomplished by accessing the router configuration through a browser window and placing values (DNS, IP, Gateway, etc.) assigned by your ISP into the appropriate boxes. This particular model also provides 100MB switched operation at full-duplex on your private network. Price has come down and you should be able to pick on up for $100-150. The other option you have is to use your existing hub and go a little cheaper for the 1-port model.
