I have never experienced something of this nature. Whenever I use the router, my pings to game servers are extremely unstable and get massive amounts of packet loss, not to mention bad pings, very out of the ordinary. I tried by passing my linksys 4 port router and everything was fine, pings, stablility and everything. I did nothing to my computer that I can think of that would cause this. I have never had this problem w/ my router. I'm puzzled, any ideas? I tried resetting the router.

I think that some of these routers just suck. Mine doesnt get packet loss, but my pings will jump up 10ms and my speed will throttle back to 2mbps (its normally 5.5mbps).

I have tried downloading the latest firmware. In Quake 3 the top line that is blue.. gets a lot of yellow on top, but rarely any red lines indicating pl below. odd.

I noticed that you said Linksys router in there somewhere below. I had the same problem - bad pings and packet loss. What happened was the firmware update to the router was the problem. v1.37 was the culprit. So I flashed the memory and took the router back to v1.30 where it was stable. That's what cured my problem.
