View Full Version : Multiplayer Problem With Netgear RT314
Hi! I hope someone can help. I recently bought a Linksys router, had gaming problems, returned it and got a netgear. I heard a lot of good reviews for the netgear. Problem is I still cannot host on battlenet(starcraft).I have two pcs hooked up on the router and we are unable to play in the same game. This is getting to be a drag. Can someone please help. By the way I am no computer expert.

inorder to host a game you have to find out what ports the games use to get onto the net and then forward them to your machine.....also make shure you have the latest firmware update v 3.24
Thanks for replying. I have already updated the firmware and the port is 6112. The problem is my brother and I cannot connect to the same game. He cannot join my games or we cannot play in the same games together.
Is there a way that this could be done? Thanks for any replies.

Dunno what games you are playing, and if that game supports playing from the same IP, plus I imagine your game needs more ports that just that one. Try putting your server into the SUA (NetGears version of the DMZ). This has all the ports open, fully exposed.
I had the Linky...for about a week until I tossed it. Then the NetGear, which hosted UT, Rune, and Quake3 without too many issues, just once in a while it kicked players in Rune. Last night I got a Netopia R910, a pretty high end, expensive, and steep learning curve. I'll see how that works.

what ip are you trying to join with??
the wan ip or the lan IP???
Is it even possible that two pcs connected to the same router can actually play in the same game together on the internet? If it is possible can you tell me how? By the way I am playing Starcraft on Battlenet.

Hedges, yes you can play with several people connected to the same router on the LAN side out on a public game server, I had the Linksys and NetGear routers for a while. What is important is....the game has to support multiple players on the same IP. I play Unreal Tournament, Rune, and Quake3. I've had all 3 computers at my house hammering away at Unreal Tournament logged onto the same UT public server, all pinging in the 60's - 80's. Now if I tried this with Quake 2 a couple of years ago when I played it, I doubt it would work, because I don't believe Quake2 supports multiple players on the same IP.
I have no idea about Starcraft though. Basically, just about all of the games that came out in the past year or two will support same IP multiple players, if they programmers did their homework, since it's getting more and more popular to have several computers at home these days.
