I have a cable internet connection yet when I play Tribes I experence Packet Loss. My ping is usually relatively low in comparison to the other players yet for some reason I am losing packets.

I recently bought a new computer. I also moved and received a new IP address. With my old computer and old IP address I had virtually no packet loss. Is there a registry entry that I need to change? Currently my MTU is 1500. Does this need to be lower?

those patches on this page have absolutly no relevance to any online game,,that is bogus information,,i also have extream packetloss playing tribes,,i played for a top 20 team on the ogl and had to step down because of this extream packetloss,,i have run numerous tests,,useing neotrace and a nifty program called broadband wizard,,the packetloss problem on my end seems to be related to the overbooking that my isp has done,,i have documented and sent this data off to my isp,,in the morning i can get on a tribes server and have no packetloss,,around 7:30pm central time is when it seems to start climbing,,and also at that time my bandwidth starts droping down into the sub 100kbps,,at its lowest point anywhere between 6 kbps and 20 kbps,,at about 9:30pm my packetloss is anywhere from 30 to 60 on any and all tribes servers,,this is a result of no bandwidth,,or lets say everyone online and trying to transfer information all at once,,the teralink can only handle so much data and ends up having to drop packets to keep from crashing,,sorry to say,,sometimes it does this sucsesfully,,sometimes it doesnt,,,i know my teralink goes down because right after my service comes up i check the bandwidth and its back in the 200kbps range,,of which btw for me it should be in the 500kbps range,,shortly after that as the people start loging back on the bandwidth drops back down into the sub 100 range,,i document this problem every night and call my isp everynight,,to the point they transfer me to a team leader right away as soon as i call,,also in relation to your problem,,this problem i am having didnt start until i moved to a new location,,,the teralink i am on is overburdened,,and i beleive if you check you will see the same thing is going on with yours,,start checking your bandwidth often and run a traceroute,,try to see where the problem is,,is it local or farther down the line,,if its local rub there nose in it,,and dont let up,,its its a server farther down the line,,say at&t tell them about it also,,make sure to have the documentation to back up what you see and find,,like i said,,my problem is overbooked isp and a very slow tranfer point in a city about 50 miles from my location,,it is causeing a bottle neck,,i have been informed more bandwidth is soon to be released and a new oc3 and more bandwidth is soon to be up and released in the area i have shown them to be the bottlneck,,if you want to get anything done you are going to have to do the legwork,,your cable provider will not,,you are but one of hundreds or may thousands of users out there,,unless you speak up often and show you are well documented they will do nothing,,if you leave or choose to drop your provider to punish them 10 other people will ask for the sevice the day you leave,,so they lose no money,,thats all i have to say for now,,good luck and hope to see you online with no pl

Hola peeps, I just registered after seeing this post, since it is relevant to problems I have had when I first got my cable modem (just a few days ago). In Tribes, what I do is play with the cable modem, but the PL and lag from it can be HORRID. I experimented, and came up with something that (dunno why, if anyone has a clue post it!) works; In the options, in network settings, I put it to transmit as a 56k modem, not as cable. I still get pings in the neighborhood of 50, but the PL is reduced to a rather manageable degree, if it even shows. Again, I have no real idea why, just theory and conjecture... But a 'tech friend told me that Tribes was designed for 56k users, mainly... Anyway, ask me not the reasons, I know not. Just try it; It worked for me!
