Howdy. Been browsing through the boards looking for answers and thought I'd give this a shot.

Just went out and bought a Linksys BEFSR41 V.2(not sure if the v.2 means anything or not, haven't seen anything about a version 2 yet) and finally got it setup for my home lan(2 comps running win2k).

I have gotten Half Life to see the net, but I cannot get UT or Q3A to see any servers. I setup forwarding for the primary machines ip to use service port range 7777~27900, which I think got HL working, but I don't know what port range to use for Q3A or UT.

As you can see, I know dick about networking. I finally got broadband 5 months ago, and have been enjoying it aside from nasty pppoe software and disconnects.

BTW, if it matters, I am running over pppoe, w/ a dynamic ip address, to mindspring.

Any help will be appreciated. TIA

Mike

You don't need port forwarding if you are connecting to play on the internet, only if you are hosting a server.

Do you have the latest patches for both Q3 and UT? Are they both set to the correct network settings, connect using local network? Or are they still set for dial up?

Also, I don't use the DHCP function of the routers, I find it unreliable. I prefer to go the static IP method on the workstations.

BWAHAHA, that did it.

Thanks YeOldeStonecat, the port forwarding was the problem. Now I can go and get my ass slaughtered again.

Thank you much.
