First let me say welcome to speedguide.net. The only problem with satalite is ping times. You will prob never see anything below 750ms. Thats because it takes around 500ms to send to the satalite, and 500ms to get to the reciever. So it's a no no for ping times. The dl is around 400kbps or 50K sec. Hope that helps

Are you talking about the new two satellites or the old one ways that you had to upload threw the phone line??
I knew that they had some sucky ping but i didn't know about the new two way because it just hit the market not to long ago

Of course the 2-way is better but it doesn't matter still....the signal has to travel far both ways. If it is possible (don't know about the service), try renting for a month and see if you like it. A 56k just might be better for gaming than the satellite.

Like the previous post said, the ping times are low for satellite. However, speeds can be up to as high as 3 mbps / 128 kbps or higher from Wildblue. Almost all satellite firms are upgrading to two way, however when playing games, you will notice latency, or lag. 350 mile latency! But there are some low orbit satellites out there with ka-band and ku-band. My suggestion is get fixed wireless. Sprint Wireless is very reliable for me, and although some people criticize upload times, my average upload speed up to 112K and my download speeds average 2.75 megabit and I've reached 4.12 mbps. Fixed wireless is a heck of a lot cheaper and the ping times are low enough for me to play the most bandwith demanding games, just as long you have a good router/switch/hub. I've played Red Alert 2 with 6 players on my broadband connection through a "crappy router that doesn't work on games, the Linksys RT314" although I never had a network game disconnection or anything. Well, that being irrelevant, get fixed wireless! 39.95, just as much as cable or ADSL and I've gotten better speeds than cable. If it's not available in your area yet, which it probably won't be until the next two years, wait a while and get Wild Blue.
