I've been playing Vampire: The Masquerade Redemption online now for several months, despite how much the MP server (Won/Flipside/Whatever) sucks. I started out with a simple 56.6k dial-up, but just got cable (roadrunner service, yay me) installed this week. I'm now on a LAN of the two computers in the house, and everything is otherwise great when it comes to surfing, etc.
The problem now is Redemption Multiplayer, and the finnicky nature the setup seems to have towards host. Maybe it's the firewall, I don't know. Anyway, if the host of the game has dial-up, I usually crash within 3 minutes of interacting with other players. If cable, then I can last just fine. Other such users of cable connections and higher tell me they never had any such problem. I've consulted tech-support, a few system patches, and so on, but still I have problems with dial-up game hosts in MP. Frustrating to say the least.
I'm told that the solution to this may be a new switch/router around the area of 1000 bucks, which would also short me of a firewall save via a program of some sort. Hopefully this isn't the only way, but of the current specs for reference sake- I'm not too sure...
