how does resolution affect lag?

I play starcraft alot online and I see people talking about how resolution affects lag...can you tell me how that works, because whether my resolution is 800/600 or less or more, my games always are the same looking. SO would a lower resolution help lag? If so, then what is the downside of a lower resolution? Thanks tons.

resolution doesn't affect your lag. Lag is affected by your and the hosts connection speed and the speed of the hosts PC

Resolution will however influence your the speed your graphics are processed. If you choose a higher res your pc may make the game itself go slower, this should be the same if you play online or not.

So to have fast gameplay use a res that your pc can handle. If you have a slower processor and graphics card use a low res
