View Full Version : how do i know if video card is installed properly?
the reason i ask is i have been having poor quality as far as images on my games. I have a VooDoo 4, yea I know out of business, but i would think it could handle games. The game I am talking about is AGe of Empires. Now when i want to load up SOF, the screen just goes black, and i have to reset computer. What the **** is going on here? I would appreciate everyones help.

First thing I would do is update your drivers if you haven't already. 3DFX site is down but you can go to www.voodoofiles.com (http://www.voodoofiles.com) and get them. Also, make sure you are running the latest version of DirectX, which is 8.0 and can be got at www.microsoft.com/directx (http://www.microsoft.com/directx)

i would be careful about installing direct x8. it has caused people to have some lockup problems. it is also hard to uninstall. this is just my opinion though http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif
Did as you said and still nothing. Everytiime trying to load SOF i get a black screen and nothing is happening. What else could be the problem. It works for my other games Age of Empires though. What else could be wrong. Maybe it is the driver itself. I am using the drivers from VooDoo files and downloaded it. it is a Beta version. It isn't the drivers that came with the software. Could that be it.

this is just my opinion too...
but i think some older drivers are best, just from my experiance. have you checked out the game options itself? maybe it don't have your card picked...i don't know though, i don't have the game. in unreal tournament for example, you have to go to the settings and pick the video card.
wish i could help http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/frown.gif

oh, as far as it being installed correctly, it is or it wouldn't work at all.

thanks cornbread for your help, i wish i could get to the game , but can't even load it to see settings. Your right maybe i should try other drivers. the drivers i am using now are the latest version from VooDoo files, but it is a beta version, I don't know if that will make a difference, but i will install the drivers the card came with and check it out. thanks
