View Full Version : 40 frames per second with a prophet2 32meg??
What the HELL is wrong with this??? it gives me 350 fps in quake2, but in UT only 40 and below? Anyone know whats going on here? I used to get better fps on my v3- 2k.
UT works better w/Glide. Therefore, 3dfx video cards will yield better performance. BTW, what's your CPU?

500mhz Pentium III... I turned the V sync off in my cards settings. This dood told me to do it. Accually it has helped quite a bit. Looking down an open area, i get 30-50 fps, but looking at a wall, i get 200+. I think there is still something wrong. Btw im using Open GL.
The human eye can't tell the differnece between 30 fps and 200, so as long as you don't drop below 30 you've reakky got nothing to be complaning about.

Actually, I believe it's 60-200, not 30. I sure can tell the difference between 30 and 60 in UT.
Why would they make Dreamcast games at 60 FPS and PSX Games at 30 if there was no difference between the two?

Quake 2 has much simpler graphics than UT, so 40 fps with your video card is good.

Standard television is 30 fps... The human eye can actually see up to 33.

"UT works better with Glide"--- That is true to a point. The card you have is better than ANY voodoo card out there. I work in a pc shop and play UT and I know. The bottleneck is your CPU. UT is a very CPU dependent game. Up your processor to an 850 or maybe even a gig depending on your motherboard and you will see about a 30-35 fps increase. Also--do NOT use open gl. Use Direct 3d..In quake open gl rules but in UT direct 3d is way better. As a matter of fact you may see an improvement just by switching to direct 3d now. Also gt the Detonator 3 drivers and Directx 8.0.

Studys have been conducted showing that the human eye can actually see around 70 FPS for a person with good eyes. I think i have a fix for your prob. Try direct3d. Its not usually the fastest but UT is optimized for it. My TNT2 gives me better than forty, but then again, my component otherwise are a bit better http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif

Yup gotta use Glide with UT,, It seems to be the best anyways, http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif

do you have the newest patch? version 4.36 i think it is. get it, it should help alot. also make sure your running the game in direct 3d and not any of the other 3d mode, ie: opengl or s3 metal or whatever it called. hope that helps.

nononon with a prophet if you have enough ram and plenty of tweak time, get the loki patch that allows for s3tc compression of the 2nd UT disc's textures! it's unbelievable. openGL runs UT a million times better than d3d with this patch.

Would this work w/ a tnt2 and 256 RAM (the second cd patch)?
