View Full Version : Nvidia TNT problems

Hey, I have the new Detonator 3 6.34 drivers for my Nvidia TNT 16MB video card. I'm on WinME, PII 400, 128MB RAM, SoundBlaster Live X-Gamer with LiveWare 3.0.
Now to my problem. When I play Quake 3, my FPS are quite low (30-40) and often I'll get an illegal operation on the nvopengl.dll and it'll crash Quake 3 and take me back to the desktop. Now I tried the earlier version drivers and it does the exact same thing.
Another problem I have is in other games, the game will just quit out for no reason and put me back to the desktop. This happens in the game, Star Trek: New Worlds. On all three of the resolutions, it will just sudden close and put me back to the desktop when I'm at the loading of a board stage.
Can anyone help me out?
Umm, what speed is your CPU? and the TNT is an old card already, don't expect high frames with it. I dunno about those errors though. Did you do a CLEAN install for the drivers?

Try upgrading to a V5 5500 or 6000,and his cpu is 400mhz

ya I know it's old, but I'm cheap http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif and yes I did a CLEAN install. I went back to the older Detonator 5.22 drivers and it's going better. Unless you have a Geforce card, my recommendation would be to stay away from the Detonator 3 drivers for now. I was talking to someone else today and he agrees. He has a Geforce 2 Ultra and he still uses the 5.22 drivers. Just some things to think about.

Juggernaut's right. The detonator drivers were written for GF's. The regular TNT cards stopped gaining performance some where around 3?!?!?!? Install Drivers somewhere between 3 & 5 and they should work. Otherwise look at the GeForce MX cards. Wonderful card for the price, and works as well as the V5 which costs twice as much...

Hey, go to www.reactorcritical.com (http://www.reactorcritical.com) and go and install the older 5.13 detnator driver. This was one of the top performers of the older drivers. Remove your video card and do a clean install with this driver. If that dont work, just start up the ladder of #'s on the det drivers until you find one that is decent. Also read the tweak guide for Q3Arena here on http://www.3dspotlight.net/tweaks/quake3/index.shtml to help improve your FPS. Talk to ya laterz.
Juggernaut, I have a TNT and I just loaded Windows ME. Same freakin problem. I have only tried UT, I haven't loaded any other games because of the problem. At least now I know it is my video card.
But as far as the TNT being old, I was getting 70fps in 98SE playing Unreal Tournament at 1024x768. I was happy with that.
Guess we better do some shopping.
