QUAKE QUESTION

I joined a quake game and it started to download a mod so I could play, BUT IT TOOK FOREVER Downloading at 2kb/sec, is this because I have my modem speed set at 33.6 In quake? I never bothered to change it.

You'll never d/l fast off in-game servers. They only send a MAX amount of KB to each person. Just imagine if they sent 100KB/s of data to you while other ppl are playing in the game already. Here's what I do, I look to see what mod it is. I quit the game and d/l it fileplanet. than I re-enter the game!
