Hi, im looking for a good graphics card for gaming and got about 3 to 4 hundred bucks to burn. I was checking out the voodoo5 line but i am unsure how they compare with other cards on the market(like Nvidia). I thought i should ask some people that now alot about graphics cards. Thanx.

The voodo 5 does not compare to the Geforce 2 gts. Nvidia is coming out soon with the Geforce2 GTS Ultra card that will be the fastest card out on the market until Xmas when they release the Geforce 3 card. If u have 400 to spend then get the Geforce2 Gts 64mb (330.00) or wait until the ultra comes out.

Well that all depends too.. first make sure you have a AGO slot.. If you don't you cant use the geforce.. if you do have the AGP slot then i would get the geforce. if you have a PCI i would go for the Voodoo 5 PCI.

As to the 3D card, it depends on what you want. However, NO card has beatten the GF2 in the 'standard' gamers field. The Raidon cards have better frame rates when you run 1600x1200x32bit (I use 1042x768x32bit for most games) so if you run your games that high use it. Otherwise, GF2. Hands down. Don't even look at the Voodoo. It has about half the frame rate of a GF2, and might on a good day beat the GeForce MX chip which costs about $150 less... Check www.planethardware.com, (http://www.planethardware.com,) they have a nice article on the different chips out right now & compare them...

OK, it all depends on the types of games you play. The V5 is a good card if you plan to play driving, flying or sports sims. 800x600 w/ 4xFSAA. WOW!

If you play today's fps and want high fps, get a Geforce 2. It's also the card that has the most brute power. Although it doesn't support many next gen features. It uses it pure power to toss as many pixels to the screen as possible. You also get very good/mature drivers here. It's aonly bottleneck is it's memory. Without faster mem, the Geforce will never reach its full potential (Unless you want to spend a lot of a Geforce 2 Ultra!)

If you want both visual quality and fast frames with future games support, the Radeon is your best pick. Even John Carmack (Creater of Quake) says that the next Doom will be using more of the Radeon's features, and the GF2 and V5 will struggle to keep pace. It also has the best DVD playback and your high quality 2D. (ie, you can have your monitor at high res. and your text won't be blurry like Nvidia's cards)

I'm a bit biased towards the Radeon, cause I ordered it a couple days ago http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

definetly wait for the geforce2ultra, it won't be long at all and its performance is significantly better

But the ultra would be out of his price range (and most ppl's too!)
@ www.pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com) then have them at $499

heh, I can't take all the credit. Brent did give me soooo many links to Radeon reviews...actually too many LOL.

He pushed me over the fence from choosing Radeon or Geferce. From there, I did my own research on it http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif
