When I play certain games (ST: Armada, Diablo 2, Klingon Academy) I can connect and play for about 15 minutes, after which I am disconnected totally from the internet until i reboot my Terayon cablemodem. I am running a home network as well. Other games (such as Rainbow 6, Rogue Spear, Ultima Online, Myth II) work totally fine. I've called rogers tech support but they have no clue what is happening....they've replaced my modem, rewired the cable, all to no avail. Any ideas?

Isn't it that all the gamez u play r illegaly copied... and that u're just being kicked out of the server after 15min. (until they check it)
And that when u reboot ur terayon, u get a other Ip, and that's not yet in the black-list.

Just a big hunch....
but it's a tought...

Nope, I BUY all the games and my ISP assigned me a static IP so its the same all the time.

Are you running any kind of firewall? I've had the same problem with the linksys.

If it's only certain games, sounds like your behind a firewall/proxy. :P

I have the exact same problem with Unreal Tournament. I have the exact same modem too. I'm on Shaw@home. You must be near me! I got NIC replaced but no difference. I think its the modem, its the thing you and me have the same.

No offense loggerman. but looking at your advertisements every post you make is getting extremely irritating. Speedguide.net is here so that he can post and get help. If 56K.com is so good please stay there and stop leaving us messages about how good it is.

Anyhow, you are having problems staying connected. Ahh, Okay, is the interval exactly 15minutes? - Please, time this on these games and post if it is or not. Because that will have a baring on your problem.

Anyhow, your modem has nothing to do with it, nor does your provider. It is something from your end i suspect. I had this problem myself with a few games but after some tinkering i got it right. Sometimes the problem lies within the games, if they arent installed properly they often cause glitches. Anyhow, you'll find if your running a proxy that this will be the case for a lot of games. Honestly, proxies are near useless to gamers so just copy down your settings and remove them. If at a later date you really want them then just re-apply.

Until you post more detail on your problem i cannot help you out much. Thanks for the problem though, ill keep toying with possible solutions.

Sorry, just read the post.

1) Viper_74: Incorrect assumption. No key'ed server takes 15 minutes to "check it" and determine that you have a "illegal" copy of a game. If you get on a server, you are on. There is no delay in checking for valid keys, that is not how the validation works, that would be a HORRID validation algorithm to allow a user onto the system and THEN kick them off after determining they are not using a valid login !

Plus, sort of an insult on your part to assume he is running illegal software. And, getting kicked off of a server has nothing to do with your entire connection dropping,. which is what he is describing.

2) I'm not sure what is going on with your conect dropping, nor why it only happens on certain games, nor why it is on 15 minute intervals. I know of nothing on your system that would drop a connection after 15 minutes unless you are having some severe errors and a timer is set at 15 minutes, but that is rather far fetched. Try and figure out what the protocol is on these games vs the ones that work, that may help you to narrow things down.

Sorry, can't help, just wanted to defend you against the attack.

Thanks for the help guys. I've timed it and its not exactly 15 minutes every time. It seems totally random except that it falls between the 10-20 minute interval. I am running WinProxy 3.0 and will try to run these games without the proxy and see if this helps. Thanks again for helping me :-)

I don't operate with a proxy and I still get disconnected. When I play with my regular 56k dial-up connection on the same computer, I have no problems what so ever. I just a little laggy, but at least I'm not getting dropped.

I've got the same damn problem. Using Adelphia shared with a Linksys cable router... even when I use DMZ, I get disconnected while playing Starseige: Tribes.
It varies from a few minutes to up to 15... this REALLY annoying, there has got to be something I'm missing... even the damn 33.6 modem doesn't drop the connection; it's just to slow to play.

Argh!
