I have 2 computers hooked up to a cable modem....@home is my provider

I can play Quake2 with one computer with no problem....I ping around 40.....but when i use both computers to Play Quake 2 the upstream dies and we both get a permanent jack until one of us disconnects.....its same when 1 of us is playing and the other is uploading something.....we get jacked.....Is there a way to fix this....Ive already tried lowring the MTU on both machines to like 6k upload each and it didnt fix it......Is there another way to fix it?

What are you using to share the Cable Modem?

Ah, Finally! Someone else with the exact problem I've been facing for the last year. I've spoken to about 20 techs in person, countless phone calls to Cox@home, and even asked my father who is a network type person. All to no avail. The problem also exists on ADSL provided by GTE in the American NW. I started on the Eastern Seaboard, in Virginia with Cable, and running 2 identical PC's over a 5 port net hub and Cox@home with the "Surfboard" modem, I first encountered this problem.

Everquest and Diablo 2 seem to run fine with both of the computers online, but Quake 2, Quake 3 and Unreal Tourny will cause the permanent phonejack. Changing the Rate in Quake 2 had no effect.

Now That I'm in Washington state and on ADSL, I'm still experiencing the problem. Everquest and Diablo fine, but the FPS'ers are torture. ANY hints into this would be helpful..

Try using a switch instead of a hub or try a different cable modem or you could go the expensive route and get a router. http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/tongue.gif

Make sure each quake2 client is using a unique port. Use different batch files to load quake2. For example:

quake2.exe +set clientport 26660 %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9
and
quake2.exe +set clientport 26770 %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9

This fixed a nat issue that I had with a Toshiba router, and no, their tech support didn't have a clue either. Good luck.
