If you went through a diff path to get to whereveer your trying to connect to, to play your favorite game then if that server was less used at the time then it would be better for your game play right?

Does the router from Linksy's do this?
Anyone know how to actually use it?
What exactly does it do?

Just trying to experiment because this lag on Ultima Online is killing me literally!

If your number of hops is less to the server you are playing on, the internet path is not congested, and the server itself is able to handle the load, the game will be ok. If your isp's gateway is in another state, that sucks too. I had dsl thru an ISP that routed thru all the way to NJ from CA. I am now on GTE cable where the gateway is in TX. The router does not help for speed on the internet. It is just for hooking up more than one computer to share a cable/dsl connection. If you play your game in-house on the LAN with your friends/family, you will not have any lag.

basically yes. If your isp's gateway is far away, that sucks for gaming. I had dsl with an ISP that had their gateway in NJ. I am in CA. The shorter the path, the less congestion on the internet, the better the server you are playing on, the better your connection, then the better your latency in-game. The Linksys is not for faster gaming online. It is for sharing a cable/dsl connection with other computers you have. If you have dsl, check out different isps to see how many hops to their gateway and where the gateway is. Gamespy has an ISP listed that is dedicated to providing gamers with good connections with only 2 hops to an internet backbone. Go to http://www.gamespy3d.com/isp/http://www.gamespy3d.com/isp/

and see if they have service in your area.
