hahaha...I thought you were playing last night on the server. Someone knew my name somehow (unless GRIM's name is the same as mine)!?!

GRIM won every time but I'm really rusty on instagib and kept missing alot of shots that I should have landed (probably still wouldn't have made that much of a difference anyway considering I had a 100 ping). Hard to play instagib with a 100 ping unless your use to the latency and adjust your aim for it. One guy came into the game and started kicking @ss, I didn't stay in the game long enough to find out who won but he might have edged GRIM out at the end even though he came in about 2-3 minutes late.

I sent you an email last night to see if you wanted to host a game but got no word back. I think I figured out to increase my ping on so it will be more of an even match between us.

equalizing the pings sounds good to me. I might be back in time tonight to play… I still need to change things around to host a game through my Linksys router.

I think GRIM had a bot on the other night when I joined in... I was up on the Bot 10 to 0 then Grim jumped on and beat me??? I think 20 to 14,,, that was with me having the 10 point lead lol... I tell ya PING time KILLS.

I need to practice quite a bit using the rail, not as good as I used to be a year ago. Hell, I'm still rusty :( compared to what I could do a year ago. Maybe in another month or two I will be as "descent" as I once was ;).

I'll assume you already have it downloaded and installed. if you do not you should have a directory in your Quake3 directory called instagib127s within this folder should be the instagib.pk3 and a couple other cfg's let me know????

soif you already have the directory there are two ways to run the mod are you going to be serving?
first you should make a new shortcut for quake then in the command line put this if it will be the server short cut

+set dedicated ? (1 for lan and 2 for net
+set fs_game instagib127s
+exec insta.cfg (or what ever you name the serrver .cfg
+set g_gametype ? (0=ffa 1=tourny
+set com_hunkmegs ( depends on how much ram you have
+set sv_pure ? (1=on 0=off
+set com_hunkmegs 64 +set bot_enable 1

I set up a server and it would lag out at weird times. Some people that got on would increase others people's pings and when they got off it would lower but when someone else would come on, the pings would remain the same. Are certain connections prone to screwing up the bandwidth?

Also, for my connection (1.5Mbps dwn 128KBs up), how many people could I handle for it to have good ping rates for everyone?

With that upload cap you will not be able to handle many clients
What is your sv_maxclients set to? I reccccomend 4 max

also your sv_maxrate? I reccomend 8000 or less you will have to play with these settings

also are you playing on the server machine cause this will cause lag too

I usually only have maxclients set to 3-4 (depending if it's 1vs1). Still gets laggy.

My rate is set to 25000 but I change it to 8000 when I run a server.

Yes, I use the server since I don't have another computer. But I rarely play when I'm running a server (usually let the server run when I'm not playing).

Hmmmmm another thing comes to mind is the
sv_maxfps check that if set too high can also cause lag

Also run some traces to your ISP and do some pings to your gate way it may not be Quake

Haven't messed with that cause I forgot the command. I will give it a try and see what comes about. As far as the traceroute, it's pretty rare that there is latency on my end, maybe some bad hops to some of the players but that's about it.

One P.C. is Pro 200 can't Q3 on it.

You are probably saying to your self "Like duh" but I have never looked in to this because on dialup it would be useless.

Grim,, like I ran the server,, some of the commands worked great,,, but like sv_maxclients was set to 5 and I had like 7 to 8 people joined in :confused: I need to browse the web for awhile to see what is going on.

Now that I have started I have to try and make it work... :D will drive me nuts if I cant.

One other thing,,, I had to put the config file in baseq3 or it wouldn't see it

and where is the instagib127s folder located ? it should be located in C:\Quake III Arena
