Hi, go to a DOS prompt and type in:

tracert x

Where the x should be the IP address of the server you are connecting to. Then post the results here.

Does this happen on multiple servers or just one?

The paths don't really look that bad. The latency increases some when you reach the @home backbone, but not enough to cause what you are describing. Have you tried playing without your router? Also, do you get disconnected alot?

I have seen people talkin about lag caused by a router in the cs-ingame chat...
Try to play without it (if possible).

Firmware 1.38.5 has been reported to have issues with CS.

Downgrade to 1.38.4 and see what happens. I'm running it on my BEFSR41 with no problems in CS.

i think i found the problem. it is because i have my a splitter that connects one to my cable modem and one to a tv because when i remove the splitter i no longer lose anymore packets. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a place where i can find some rg6 cables with quad shielding and a high pass filter and maybe a good high quality splitter

Splitters are always bad. They add too much noise and degrade the signal.

I get the same type of problem running without a router. Adelphia Rowland Heights area in Souther california. Intermittent lag spikes every 30 to 40 seconds. Happens whenever, not just in CS but every other game. Seems like it happens when browsing webpages also. Running Dlink 530TX RevA NIC, winME. I'll post more specs if requested.

Get the cable company to come out and look at it. Don't try to get the splitter yourself. Some work, some don't. It's definately a signal issue. Just tell them that you are getting packet loss, and that you have identified the problem as the splitter. Probably what they will do is drop a new line from the tap to the room where the computer is so that it doesn't have to be split to any TVs. They should do this for free.
