Running a halflife server with zonealarm

How do you get zonealarm to work with halflife, i had it to allow to connect to the
internet, no one can log on the game,if i put up the server first someone are able to log on then get knock off and how can it work thru a lan.Please I need help

You will need to open certain particular ports in order to play multiplayer through the firewall software. The ports can be any number between above 1024and below 32000 or so. (within reason) They must match on the client and the server. Counterstrike uses port 27016 I believe, so half-life probably uses something close to that. There are sites about running Half-Life (and mod) servers, and you'd probably find a more cohesive solution at www.planethalflife.com (http://www.planethalflife.com)
